Have you noticed that most articles from photography publications rarely satisfy your hunger for more knowledge? Quantity of articles on photography is way up, but quality only appears to be on the decline. I’m seeing three main reasons for this:

Rise of the PRticle. The underlying motivation in most journalism right now is to grab your attention, not educate you. So, we’re headline heavy and content light.

Cheap Labor. Publications are hiring neither great writers nor great photographers for their reviews.

The Democratization of Skill. Content creators are evolving at speeds faster than that of publications.

As it turns out, those of us out there creating right now know far more and move faster than publications do, creating a glut of articles and a dearth of knowledge. But reframe it for yourself: the more of it you see, the better photographer you must be.
