I’ve also wondered about this. One view I like to take is that shooting color and processing BW is simply a form of eye training. You’re affecting the mood of a BW artist. It can still, as you say, be highly effective, but perhaps that veers into design? The purposefulness of shooting specifically with BW in mind seems to change the behavior and perhaps even intent. Once you get past, “oh the colors don’t really matter now,” you start to ask, so what really does? I love where that takes the artist. Thanks so much for your insightful comment.
