Photography begins with love and ends with apathy. In the early stages, it is this seemingly endless well of passion and interest that drives us to push through the hardships of the medium. To fall, get back up and go after it again — only passion fuels that effort (it certainly isn’t the money). But when we lapse and lose the drive, it is because we neglected our love and learned to be jaded on the qualities of a good photograph. Ho hum, another excellent photo in the sea of excellent photos, who cares.

Fighting against apathy. Railing against jadedness. Protecting the childlike corner of your heart that adores and loves the medium. This is the hardest lesson in photography. If you can learn it, you can succeed where thousands and thousands have failed.
